Sisse Fisker | Professional board member

How do you create structure and peace of mind in a busy boardroom? For Sisse Fisker, the answer is BetterBoard's board portal.

Sisse Fisker, a professional board member, tells us how she has created structure, efficiency and security in her work across seven boards with BetterBoard’s board portal – especially in terms of overview, data security and collaboration with both digital and less digital colleagues.

Sisse Fisker is a professional board member on seven boards and works with everything from foundations and owner-managed companies to green startups and social initiatives. She has a background as a journalist, TV host and entrepreneur, and today combines her experience with communication, organisation building and business development in boardrooms across the country.

For Sisse, it is crucial that board work be professional and value-creating, and here BetterBoard’s board portal plays a central role. Today, she actively uses the portal in four boards, and more are on the way.

“I have previously spent an endless amount of time finding old emails, minutes and documents. Now everything is in one place. This saves time and creates structure in my board work.”

A shared digital space with high security

Sisse places great importance on data security and GDPR compliance, especially because many of the companies and foundations with which she is involved handle confidential information. Here, BetterBoard’s board portal gives you peace of mind.

“Having documents and confidential information safely behind two-factor login, and that you no longer have to send sensitive attachments back and forth in emails, makes me feel secure” says Sisse Fisker.

She also highlights how the portal functions as one unified archive, where documents such as articles of association, rules of procedure, owner agreements and annual accounts are systematically located and easily accessible to everyone on the board.

A tool for value-generating board work

In Sisse’s board roles, structure and progress are crucial – especially in the boards where she serves as chairman. Here she is responsible for both setting a clear direction and ensuring that the board’s work actually contributes to the company’s development and the management’s ability to execute.

BetterBoard’s board portal has become a central tool in this process. With features like the year wheel, agenda templates, and minute archive, she can plan meetings well in advance, follow up on previous decisions, and maintain a common thread between meetings. It creates a workspace where nothing falls between two chairs, and where both the board of directors and the executive board can focus on progress and strategy.

“I see my most important role as being a good sparring partner for the executive board and ensuring that the board creates real value. “With the board portal, it becomes much easier to stay focused and to follow up,” says Sisse Fisker.

Especially in foundations and owner-managed companies, where Sisse often contributes to developing structures and processes, the board portal makes a noticeable difference. It ensures that documents and decisions do not drown in emails or unmanageable archives, and it contributes to more professional collaboration all the way around the table.

Another important feature is the option for digital signatures. This has streamlined the end of meetings and made it possible to approve minutes and decisions in real time. Instead of waiting weeks to collect signatures, the board can now close items while they are still relevant, and this frees up energy for the forward-looking work that Sisse values highly in all her board roles.

At the same time, she experiences that the board portal strengthens the transparency of the work. When agendas, appendices and decisions are all together and accessible, it creates a common frame of reference and makes it easier to make knowledge-based decisions. This helps to raise the quality of all board work and strengthens the relationship with the executive board, which experiences that the board works efficiently and with structure.

A platform everyone can join – regardless of digital experience

Many boards of directors have a wide range of profiles – some are used for digital solutions, while others prefer physical paper and more familiar workflows. Sisse Fisker has learned that BetterBoard’s board portal manages to embrace both types of users and create a smooth transition to digital.

The platform’s functionality makes it easy to meet different needs. For example, meeting materials can be accessed digitally, but they can also be downloaded in one PDF via the portal function “Dan mødebog“, which many still greatly value.

“It has been a great help that you can, for example, print meeting notes or save agendas as PDF. This makes it easier to make the leap from paper to portal – without losing the overview.”

Especially in foundations and associations, where some board members have worked in the same way for 20-30 years, new systems can create uncertainty. However, Sisse finds that BetterBoard’s user-friendly design and clear structure make it easy to use the system – without the need for technical experience.

The board portal is also supported by an onboarding process and customer service that meets users at eye level. According to Sisse, the personal and Danish support has made a noticeable difference in the implementation and in the first encounter with the platform.

“You are not left alone with the technique. You can always call and there are real people ready to help – that means a lot, especially in the beginning,” explains Sisse Fisker

The opportunity to get a joint introduction for the entire board, or to contact support individually, has made it easier to get started – even for those who might otherwise have been sceptical about digitising their board work.

The result is a shared digital space where both digital frontrunners and more conservative users can find their feet and collaborate effectively across the board.

Recommended – And for Good Reason

Sisse was originally recommended BetterBoard by a colleague, and she researched the market herself before choosing the solution. For her, it was crucial that the platform be Danish-developed, user-friendly, professional and be priced fairly. She quickly realised that BetterBoard’s board portal delivered on all parameters.

“I’m also a bit of a shopper – and here you really get value for money” concludes Sisse Fisker.

The good experience with both functions, support and price level has meant that Sisse has already recommended the board portal to several people in her network – and would gladly do so again.
